This pair of hard-sole moccasins from the Plains. The sole measures 11” x 3.75” The sole is made of rawhide while the rest is made from buckskin. Note that the toes point upwards to prevent tripping. Orange, white, blue, aqua, and yellow beads are present throughout. The bead work bears little wear, save for some missing strands near the toe of the right moccasin. Bead work goes almost around the entire foot, while a decorative pattern appears on the top. Based on the design, the moccasins most likely were created by a tribe in the Northern Plains. The buckskin has little wear, though it was clearly worn by the appearance of a footprint on the sole. More information is needed to properly identify the exact tribe that made the moccasins [Ref: Material culture of the Blackfoot Indians, Volume 5, Issues 1-2, Clark Wissle, 1910]. -58961
