Beaded Indian pipe bag approx. 36” long and approx. 5” wide with beaded panel covering approx. 12” of the lower portion of the bag that also shows fringes at the bottom with beaded accents. This bag is in overall verygood condition with some scattered losses; the design is unique showing a large orange hand symbol with black square with red section in center of black, all in seed beads and other designs in orange, black, greenand greasy yellow seed beads with white seed beads as background; accompanied by a copy of pages from “Hau, Kola!” by Barbara Hall, showing selections from the Plains Indian Collection of the Haffenreffer Museum ofAnthropology where it is indicated that the hand symbol is one of the oldest in North America and seems basically to symbolize power and denotes bravery among the Hidatsa and Arikara Indians.
