This antique German side cabinet in renaissance revival style features a magnificent removable top crest featuring hand-carved cornucopia ( horn of plenty ) designs. Cabinet measures 47.25" wide by 39.25" high by 23.5" deep. Top crest measures 22.75" wide by 7.75" deep and approximately 20" tall. Corners feature hand-carved organic and fruit designs ending in heavy, carved round feet. There have been some restoration to the left side panel, and there are numerous dings and chips. Doors feature inserted panels in chevron design. Age is unknown, but we suspect the cabinet dates from the 19th or early 20th century. At the time it was purchased in 1990 from a dealer in Arizona, it had import stickers from southern Germany, suggesting the piece originates from the Bavarian region. The interior of this cabinet was modernized to incorporate two removeable top drawers and a stationary shelf, and the new interior was stained red. Original keyhole but no key. Door hinges do not appear to be original. Exterior finish appears very old.
