Bavarian Forestry Police M1 Carbine with Unique Siderail Mounted Telescopic Sight
This U.S. M1 carbine was originally manufactured by the Inland Division of General Motors in 1944. The carbine has a parkerized finish with walnut stock and forearm, Type II barrel band, adjustable rear sight, rotary safety, round bolt, oval sling cut and 'low wood' stock. The barrel has Inland markings and is dated "4-44". The stock has no final inspection or overhaul markings. The left receiver rail is stamped: "BAVARIA FORESTRY POLICE - N+O" in a single line. The last four digits of the serial number "1783" are electro-penciled on the top of the bolt and stamped on the side of the operating rod. The bottom of the trigger housing group is stamped: "LGKNO/1112". The carbine has been fitted with a German side rail telescopic sight base, detachable single lever mount and "OIGEE" telescopic sight. The base is numbered "1255" and the telescopic sight is numbered "1198". The telescopic sight eyepiece is roll-stamped with the maker's name "OIGEE" above the serial number and "EINBLICK". The rear face of the mount is stamped with the same "OIGEE" markings as the scope tube. The telescopic sight has a straight 7 3/8-inch tube that is one-inch in diameter with a tapered post and cross-wire rectule. The scope tube has no windage and elevation adjustments. The mount and base have a blue finish. The mount is attached to the carbine receiver by two screws mounted below the edge of the stock. The "sniper" mount is expertly installed, and though atypical for a Bavarian Forester gun, is of the style issued for use by the West German Border Guards stationed at Checkpoint Charlie, the most famous crossing through the Berlin Wall. The carbine is fitted with a German russet leather sling stamped: "1 ABT. 5C 62".

The scope mount retains about 75% of the commercial blue finish. The scope tube has about 90% of the blue intact. The scope optics are excellent. The stock and handguard are in very fine condition with minor handling and storage wear. The sling is excellent. This is a unique, post WWII German Police modification on the M1 Carbine.
