Bavarian Court and Civil Official's Sword, Germany, 1811-1864. Gilt bronze lion head pommel; two mother of pearl grips (one replacement). Gilt bronze D-shaped knuckle bow; counterguard with reclining lion, two small lion heads on top. Blade straight, double. Inscribed "A. Franz Jr., Wurzburg". Blued in panels, gold inlaid, and profusely etched in floral patterns. Scabbard black leather, two gilt brass mounts. Condition good. Scabbard has break near tip, blade is nicked throughout and has rust blemishes. As per Stadt Wurzburg, Anton Kasper Franz operated sword manufacturing and nickel plating company and shop at Peterstrasse 2 ½, Wurzburg Wuhl October 3, 1895 (successor: Ludwig Ritter).
