Battle of New Orleans. The most importa
Battle of New Orleans. The most important American victory of the War of 1812, taking place on Jan. 8, 1815, in which Andrew Jackson defeated the British. Large hand-colored engraving depicting the battle, by Joseph Yeager, who has signed in plate. Designed by West, printed by Daurman, published by McCarty & Davis, Philadelphia, 1817. 15 x 19 -1/4 (including 2" lower margin, containing title and details of the print). Beautiful rich and crisp color, with no evidence of fading. "General Pakenham," the British general, shown lying on ground, surrounded by Redcoats, with several columns of British soldiers marching behind him, British flag unfurled. In the distance, a very long column of American troops shown descending from a hill, U.S. flags flying at head and rear of line. The British lost 700 in this battle, the Americans only eight. Light edge toning at margin, restoration of small upper right corner, and at extreme lower left a small tear has been expertly repaired. Very faint rippling of paper. Floated and shrink wrapped on white board, easily removed if desired. A strong rendering of this notable event in American history. A significant military print.
