Batman #22 (DC, 1944) CGC FN/VF 7.0. They don't make butlers like Alfred anymore, and no manservant in all of comicdom can match him (sorry, Jarvis). Take this issue -- Alfred makes a ghastly blunder by falling in love with a maid at a nearby mansion, not suspecting she's the Catwoman in disguise. But once he gets wise, he not only apprehends the felonious feline, he gives her a spanking! We kid you not. Jerry Robinson handled art chores on that story; there's also a Bat-battle with the Cavalier, drawn by Jack Burnley. The cover is by Dick Sprang. Overstreet 2004 FN 6.0 value = $456; VF 8.0 value = $950. CGC census 1/05: 5 in 7.0, 16 higher. From the Northern Lights Collection.
