Batman #16 (DC, 1943) CGC VG/FN 5.0 White pages. This issue saw the first appearance of perhaps the best-known butler in all of modern fiction, Alfred! The Dynamic Duo's loyal aide was a fellow of considerable girth when he debuted; he didn't slim down until issue #21. As if that weren't enough to recommend this book, there's also a memorable Joker story -- the Crafty Clown of Crime takes a blow to the head and forgets he's a villain, in fact he becomes a small town's hero! Note that the blue face on Batman's logo isn't an error on this copy, it's the way the logo appeared on a couple of issues of this title. The issue's artists include Jack Burnley, Ray Burnley, Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson, and George Roussos. Overstreet 2004 VG 4.0 value = $994; FN 6.0 value = $1,491. CGC census 1/05: 2 in 5.0, 17 higher. From the Northern Lights Collection.
