A choice and rare San Francisco first person's history of San Francisco in 1850-1851. "San Francisco in the Spring of '50", aka Men and memories of San Francisco in the Spring of 1850" by TA Barry and BA Patten published by Bancroft, SF, 1873. 296pp, 5.5 x 8", green cloth cover. Barry & Patten arrived in san Francisco aboard the steamer Columbus on June 6, 1850 and promptly set about obtaining a site for a saloon. At the time, the most popular saloon, according to them, was the "Tehama" on the southeast corner of Montgomery & Pine. They chose a location very nearby such that when something happened at the Tehama, business drifted over to their place. The pair put out a rare storecard token in 1868, also available in this sale from the Coelln Collection, and an embossed whiskey bottle, extremely rare, which our collector was never able to obtain. This book is a remarkable first person record of every business and person, written street by street, building to building. The book does not mention the storecard or the bottle.
