-James King of William opened his banking house in 1849 and merged with Adams & Co. In 1854. When Adams closed in the Panic of 1855, King became a newspaper editor and was murdered in May of 1856, causing the revival of the San Francisco Committee of Vigilance which hung his murderer in public on the day of King`s funeral. This 4.5x11.5" blank Second of Exchange was printed by Toppan, Carpenter, and Casilear of Phila. & New York. An attractive vignette of a side-wheel steamship is in the upper right corner, and an Indian maiden graces the bottom center. HKA#64246
