Bank of the United States - Sterling DraftA draft for 250 Pounds Sterling dated October 2, 1837 and signed by Nicholas Biddle as President of the Bank of the United States. Biddle graduated from Princeton at the age of 15 as valedictorian of his class. In 1822 he was appointed President of the Second Bank of the United States. The 1832 Presidential election saw the Bank of the United States become a central and pivotal campaign issue, which brought Biddle into direct confrontation with President Andrew Jackson, a foe of the bank. Upon expiration of the bank's charter in 1836 Biddle rechartered in Pennsylvania. It is under the authority of this Pennsylvania charter that the draft made available here was issued. A significant document showing the importance of foreign capital in the early development of the United States and bearing the signature of an important figure in the early financial history of this country. Fine, mounted to a card and with a couple of minor ink erosion spots and a small void in the paper above the embossed corporate seal of the bank. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
