Measures approximately: 6" tall, 4.8" at widest point and 4" rim diameter. 19th Century, Dated 1826. Used in old English taverns and Inns for wine, spirits, mead, cider or old ale. This baluster shaped type was made in many sizes, the largest being the rare and costly gallon and the smallest, the sixth-gill. On the lip, right off the handle, is the mark, "G.IV" that is the George the Fourth Excise or Testing mark, stamped when the capacity was originally tested in that reign. The date 1826 over Portcullis, is the City of London, Westminster mark. A splendid, rare specimen, made in England, c 1826.
