Ballard Sporting Rifle in 38 Rimfire
Ballard Sporting Rifle in 38 Rimfire. 26" octagon barrel has a bright shiny bore and most of its original blue with just minor freckling. Comes equipped with a very rare express sight with 3 folding leaves, a tang sight with 5/8" eyecup and a globe front sight with pinhead. The buttstock is special order, probably 2x and retains at least 90% of its original finish. There is a nameplate attached to the bottom of the stock with "Chas. P. Pike" engraved in script. The forend has the external extractor and a small brass strap inlayed to repair a crack. The receiver is silvery and marked "Ballards Patent Nov. 5 1861" on the right side and "Merwin & Bray Agt's New York" on left side. The serial number 16081 and no. 38 are stamped on top. The hammer is marked "Patented Jan. 5, 1864" on the left side indicating this is the dual ignition system- the percussion nipple is not present. A very nice rare little rifle.
