Ballard No. 5-1/2 Montana single-shot falling block rifle marked .45-100 2-7/8S caliber. Heavy octagon barrel, double set triggers, veneer type tang sight, standard wood stocks with milled steel buttplate, wooden cleaningrod, gold-plated beech type buckhorn rear sight. Serial #9919. The barrel measures slightly under 1-1/4” across the flats and is 30” in length showing 75-85% of a original blue drifting to a natural patina with somebrowning just starting and some minor light erosion also just starting. The edges are crisp, markings sharp, frame shows 30-50% case hardening drifting to silver with some light case hardening mixed in and some areasof darkening, pitting, and erosion mostly on the left side above the lever just below the address. The stocks are of standard grade wood and very good with some minor scratches, slight handling, a couple of marks and justnormal aging. Butt retains at least 80% varnish. The action is tight, bore near excellent. The chamber is straight and there is no erosion in the chamber. A period brass-tipped cleaning rod is included. The
