Ballard No. 2 Single Shot Sporting Rifle
Full octagon barrel has a folding globe front and adjustable rear buckhorn sights, with a short range tang mounted peep sight. The top barrel flat at the breech is marked "38-55". The left side of the frame is marked "MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A. / BALLARD'S PATENT, NOV 5, 1861" and the serial number appears on the bottom of the frame. Blue barrel, casehardened remaining parts, double set triggers and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 80% of the original thinning blue finish with high edge wear and some scattered very minor spotting. The receiver retains 50% original case colors, mainly on the left side and most of the original casehardening pattern on the right side. The balance has a smooth gray patina. The lever is a mix of smooth dark patina and mottled gray patina with a small amount of minor oxidation. The wood is fine with overall scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
