Ball & Williams Ballard Carbine
Manufactured from 1865 to 1866 without Ball and Company markings. Approximately 15,600 of these carbines were produced with a majority used to fill Civil War military orders. This particular carbine is absent of any military inspection markings. The left side of frame is marked "MERWIN & BRAY / AGT'S N.Y." above the serial number and "BALLARD'S PATENT / NOV 5 1861" on the right side. Pinched blade front sight and two leaf folding rear sight, and mounted on a plain forearm and straight grip stock with iron carbine buttplate and sling swivels.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brownish gray patina with signs of some polishing on the barrel. The left side of the stock has crude period carved initials "JTC". There are also a few minor gouges on the forearm, and overall minor dings and dents. The markings are readable. Mechanically fine.
