<B>Ball 15 Cr. 3A $500 1861 Bond Fine.</B></I> This $500 bond with serial number 171 was issued at Richmond, but according to Ball, serial numbers 1-177 were issued at Montgomery. Ball credits Richmond with 314 examples of this bond. This bond has the uncommon signature of C(harles) T. Jones as Register of the Treasury. As Acting Register he would have signed this bond only if Register of the Treasury Robert Tyler was unavailable. This example was once lightly mounted with two stamp hinges.
