An interesting 1930s vintage card with 3 real photos on the front that is primarily an advertisement for Big Blue Baker Service (auto shop and gas station), R.J. “Dad” Fairbanks, on US91 at the Turn-off to Death Valley. Death Valley & Hoover Dam Information. Baker, Calif. The three photos are: 1) Big Blue Baker Service, showing the shop and several cars around, rental cabins behind the shop (described as Modern and Clean Cabins and Meals at all hours), with desert mountains in the background. The shop advertises Standard Oil Products; 2) a smaller photo of Hoover Dam (formerly Boulder Dam); and 3) A desertscape showing what may be Pacific Coast Borax Mine near Kramer, CA. On the reverse of the card are some interesting notes, as follows: “Dad” Fairbanks/Big Blue Baker Service/ Oct. 18, 1933/ Lunch and Gas/ Seeing Gold and Silver from South end of Panamints/ Dedham, Mass?/ Old Fairbanks House (with an arrow pointing to this note: Last time I saw “Dad” Fairbanks was October 23rd 1934….).
