Artist: Sarah Catherine Richter. Title: Bailado. Size: 48" x 36". Medium: Oil and Acrylic (Only background is acrylic.). Description: The horse has long been a symbol of freedom, grace, and beauty. Two slate tablets from the third millennium BC in Elam (present day Iraq), describe the horse as a noble wild beast. Serving man in war, agriculture, and development, the horse is one of the largest contributors to the enhancement of civilization.

To me, this painting symbolizes man's long history with the horse. Only half of the horse's face is shown, as if looking forward to the future, and the golden color of his coat symbolizes the richness of the past. "Bailado" can be translated to mean "dance" in Portuguese. When you dance with someone, you hope to find a good partner in them. Has the horse not been mankind's greatest partner?
