History Of The Item: Actually, there is no such thing as a "Belton" doll, although this term is used often to descibe this certain class of dolls. Belton-type dolls have flat-topped bisque dome heads with two or three stringing holes, set glass or paperweight eyes, full jointed composition bodies with straight wrists, and closed mouths with an outlined white space between the lips. Belton dolls were made from 1875 to about 1900. Belton dolls can either resemble French or German dolls of the period.

Appraiser Tips: Care of porcelain bisque dolls is very important to the long life of the doll. Sunlight is a dolls worst enemy. Sunlight can fade and damage doll clothing and materials used to construct some dolls. Keep them out of direct sunlight. Dust and dirt can damage fragile doll clothes, fabrics, wigs and discolor some types of doll bodies. The best way to display your doll is to keep in a dust free case. Regularly dust your dolls using a soft brush, such as a paint brush to brush away dirt and dust. A very low suction vacumn- with a piece of nylon over the suction end may be used gently, being careful to avoide damaging your doll. Please do this at your own risk!
Since porcelain is kiln-fired, the colors become permanent and will not fade with time. To clean your doll dust the face and limbs with the small paint brush. To remove dirt use a small soft cloth, paper towel or sponge applicator. Dampen with a mild solution of dishwashing liquid ...
