Personal check, 8.25 x 3, filled out and signed by Ruth, “G. H. Ruth,” payable to Shirley Gracie for $300.00, March 6, 1935. Double matted and framed with a superb 17.25 x 13.5 photo of a young Ruth in his Red Sox uniform, blind embossed in the narrow blank lower margin “Francis P. Burke Collection TM,” along with a lengthy caption matted beneath the photo, as well as a Babe Ruth Special baseball card (1962 Topps #138), and the 20¢ Babe Ruth postage stamp, to an overall size of 23.5 x 28.5. A small tear to top edge, expected cancellation holes and stamps away from signature, and light show-through from a stamp trivially affecting the end of the signature, otherwise fine condition. On February 26, 1935, Ruth was released by the Yankees so he could return to Boston and sign with the Boston Braves. Shirley Gracey of St. Petersburg was a Vice President of the Florida Junior Chamber of Commerce. Ruth had arrived at St. Petersburg for his first Spring Training as a Member of the Boston Braves on the evening of March 4, 1935, and began working out at Water Front Park the next day. Eight days later, preparing to begin what turned out to be his last three months as a major league baseball player, Babe Ruth signed this check. Oversized.
