Twice signed check, 8.25 x 3.25, filled out by Claire Ruth and signed “George Herman Ruth,” and “Claire Ruth,” payable to Cash for $150.00, dated June 1, 1948. Check is also endorsed on the reverse, “George Herman Ruth,” and “Claire Ruth.” Printed lettering at top left of check reads, “George Herman Ruth and Claire Ruth, as Trustees Under Trust Indenture—Dated July 31, 1947.” This designation perhaps indicates that, as Ruth’s condition worsened, the couple sought to place some of the athlete’s assets in trust as an estate planning mechanism. Check is double matted and framed with a portrait of Ruth is his Yankee pinstripes, to an overall size of 16 x 18. In fine, crisp condition, with expected cancellation stamps and holes, none affecting any of the dark and impressive signatures. Less than two months after signing this check, Ruth would succumb to cancer on August 16, 1948. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
