Tucker (1713–99), economist and political writer, a controversial figure during his lifetime, increasingly recognized as an important and original 18C theorist. If his influence on the later economic ideas of Adam Smith remains debatable, he was, as Karl Marx thought, a competent political economist (ODNB).(2) HORNE later TOOKE ( John Horne ). Focusing on the assumed scandalous marriage of the prince and Maria Fitzherbert, in spite of public denial of the marriage by Fox in the House of Commons. In the following year Horne Tooke produced another work, Two Pair of Portraits (1788), in which he derided Charles James Fox and praised Pitt in a satire that was as scurrilous as it was persuasive.(3) BURKE ( Edmund ).
