Phil Sheridan and deployed in TX and NM to protect stage and mail routes from Mexican Revolutionaries and marauding Indians in the area, and later in AZ. Partly printed DS, 2pp , 32"x21", Ringgold Barracks, TX, Aug 31, 1874. Muster roll for Company B, Jul and Aug 1874. Signed by approx 60 buffalo soldiers, mostly with their mark, including Medal of Honor winners </span><b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext;text-transform:uppercase'>John Denny</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'> (?-1901) and </span><b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext; text-transform:uppercase'>Brent Woods,</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'> both with their mark. On September 9, 1879, Denny was instrumental in saving another soldier wounded during an ambush by Victorio’s band of Apaches, carrying him to safety as he drew fire. After the death of his commanding officer in an ambush by Apaches, Sgt. Woods assumed command, rallied his troops and led a charge, defeating the enemy and saving the detachment from total massacre. Also boldly signed by Civil War </span><b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext; text-transform:uppercase'>General Edward Hatch</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'> (1832-1889) as Colonel of the 9th.
