<p><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'>BRUCE BAIRNSFATHER </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'>(1888–1959). English illustrator and author. He served with the British forces in World War I and created the cartoon character “Old Bill” to typify the spirit of the British infantryman. During World War II, Bairnsfather was cartoonist with the US forces in Europe. His works include <i>Fragments from France</i> (1916) and <i>Jeeps and Jests</i> (1943). His book, <i>Old Bill Looks at Europe</i>, 148pp, 8vo, The Laugh Club, NY, 1935. First Edition. Interspersed with his own illustrations. Boldly signed on first flyleaf. Cloth cover is slightly worn with some soiling; light general age toning; o/w VG.</span></p>
