BROWN, JOHN C.
(1827 - 1889) Confederate major general captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged and led forces at Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Franklin where he was severely wounded and his command decimated. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Pulaski, Tn., Oct. 29, 1878 to a physician, in part: "…I heard your noble brother John had added another victim to the dreadful scourge which brought sorrow to so many homes…". Brown here refers to a yellow fever epidemic which was at that time ravaging communities up and down the Mississippi. Fine condition.
