Here is an exceptional AND RARE pair of signed original of the period AUGUST MOREAU COLD PAINTED BRONZE figural COUNTRY FRENCH PEASANT LAMPS. The figures are cold painted bronze, by the reknown sculptor, AUGUST MOREAU and bear a French label of authenticity on their bases signed Paris. Moreau was a prominent French sculptor (1834-1917) who worked in Marble and bronze. The charming country couple has baskets ready (grapes inside) to gather the proceeds of the harvest. The female figurine is shown with a plow, her companion with a rake. The lamps are enamel over metal in soft pastels and date to the 1920&#39;s. The female figurine is feminine and charming, the male is strong and masculine. A totally wonderful pair of lamps to grace your country place.
The figurines are incredibly realistic and well detailed bronze sculptures. I am uncertain whether they were cast to be used as figurines or lamps, but they are original and early. They may have been made into lamps upon the demise of Moreau and marketed as such. An incredible pair of period lamps. Dimensions: Height 19 1/2"(49.50cm)
Condition: Very good. A few minor flakes to the face of the female figurine; flaking to the left hand of the male figurine.Lamps were rewired in the 1950&#39;s (see base photo)<BR> NOTE: A similar French genre lamp is offered elsewhere on Trocadero.
