BRITISH NORTH BORNEO: Protectorate, 5 cents, 1941-H, KM-5, North Borneo Chartered Company issue, a lovely lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. The North Borneo Chartered Company (NBCC), also known as the British North Borneo Company (BNBC), was a British chartered company formed on 1 November 1881 to administer and exploit the resources of Northern Borneo. The territory became a protectorate of the British Empire in 1888 but the company remained involved with the territory until 1946, when administration was fully assumed by the Crown colony government. The original monetary unit of North Borneo was the Mexican 'dollar'. The dollar was later matched to the Straits dollar and rated at 9 Straits dollars (equal to 5 US dollars at the time).
