BRECKENRIDGE AND LANE PAPER BALLOT.
BRECKENRIDGE AND LANE PAPER BALLOT. A fine, 4.5 x 8" jugate portrait ballot for Breckinridge and Lane. A classic piece of political ephemera supporting Buchanan's Vice President as the Southern Democrat candidate against Abraham Lincoln in 1860. Breckinridge represented Kentucky in the House of Representatives and was a Senator from that state for nine months in 1861 until his being expelled by resolution. Breckinridge then served as a Major General in the Confederate Army and was responsible for the defense of Vicksburg in 1862. In 1865 he was Secretary of War in the Cabinet of the Confederate States before escaping to Europe. He returned to Lexington in 1869 where he resumed his law practice. Usual aging and folds otherwise fine. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 2:00-3:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
