(NAPOLEON BONAPARTE)</b> An interesting grouping of eight documents, some of which are related to the household of Napoleon Bonaparte just a month and a half before his final defeat at Waterloo, as well as other documents of state. The group includes a manuscript D.S. written by Napoleon's first valet, <b>MARCHAND</b>, 1p. legal folio, May 29, 1815, an accounting of the various suppliers of Napoleon's household and the amounts paid to them including tailors, a goldsmith, haberdasher, glove maker, two perfume makers and numerous others totaling 12,378 francs. Near fine condition. Together with another manuscript D.S. on "<i>Maison de l'Empereur</i>" letterhead in an unknown hand, 1p. legal folio, Paris, May 9, 1815 regarding financial matters for the household; a manuscript D.S. in an unknown hand, 1p. legal folio, Paris, May 10, 1815 concerning household matters; a manuscript D.S. 1p. legal folio, [n.p., n.d. ca. 1814], regarding staff in Napoleon's household. Together with <b>PIERRE BRUNO DARU</b> (1767-1829), partly printed D.S. as Secretary of State, 1p. legal folio, [Paris] April 3, 1813, appointing Mr. Joseph Pelleat as an English and Dutch interpreter for the Bourse of Caen; <b>EMMANUEL GROUCHY</b> (1766 - 1847), manuscript D.S. 1p. legal folio, Nantes [n.d.]. The lot also includes an L.S. of the French Vice Consul at New York dated Aug. 22, 1869. Eight pieces in overall very good condition.<b> $300-500</b>
