BONAPARTE, NAPOLEON
182. NAPOLEON BONAPARTE (1769 - 1821) The "Little Corporal" whose brilliance in the field of battle and as Emperor of France has made him perhaps the most important figure of post-Renaissance Europe. Excessively rare A.L.S. "Buonaparte", 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d. ca. 1790] to his superior unnamed officer, in French. In part: "...We are all half-dead, citizen commandant. We are awaiting instructions on what we should do. If the weather is poor for [?] then could we not go to [Quiaro?] ?Our troops are growling but I hope that this will not be [?], that we will know your intentions [?]. I feel very sorry for you. You must be quite ill...". Lightly damp stained at left not significantly detracting, light soiling, overall quite good. Between 1790 and 1791 Napoleon spent 18 months in his homeland of Corsica, helping to consolidate French rule. In 1793, he rejoined his regiment stationed in Italy, and it was here that he was given his first military command. Autograph letters signed by Napoleon are of legendary rarity!$5,000-7,000
