BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip IV, assayer TR (large, late 1630s), ex-Sotheby's. S-P27; KM-19a; Cal-Type 327. 26.76 grams. Irregularly shaped piece with full shield, assayer weak but certain, off-center cross, not much corrosion but some dark encrustation on the reverse, rare provenance. Pedigreed to the Sotheby's (London) auction of December 2000 (lot 584), with Sedwick certificate from 2002. Recovered from: "San Francisco Wreck," sunk ca. 1647 off the Cape Verde Islands, west of Africa
