BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, 1652 E, transitional Type IV/A, Mastalir Plate. S-P37; KM-A20.4; Cal-1493. 19.42 grams. Broad flan (thin from corrosion) with strong details all over, including full interiors (cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves) and nearly full legends, in particular a full four-digit date 1652 that appears twice due to doubling, toned all over, recorded in Mastalir (number IV.1-A.ab) as a unique sub-variety with two dots over the lower 8 above the waves. Pedigreed to the Mastalir Collection (Sedwick Auction 20, lot 862), Plate Coin on page 85 of Mastalir's The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1653: The 1652 Transitional 8 Reales (2015). Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
