BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1649-50) O, with crowned-L countermark on cross, Mastalir Plate. S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-Type 279. 11.52 grams. Very bold full countermark (Mastalir type Laa) but host coin weakly struck with lots of flat areas and some light corrosion, spotty toning, edge-split. Pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 12 (lot 591) and Plate Coin on page 106 of Mastalir's The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652—The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652 (2020). Recovered from: Maravillas, sunk in 1656 off Grand Bahama Island
