BOHEMIA: AE medal (42.91g), 1873, Hauser-2277, B-246, 42mm bronze medal by Valcav Kriz for the Anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Church of St. Vitus in Prague; S. VENCESLAUS M. ECCLESIAE S. VITI FUNDATOR around Saint on horseback holder banner and church // FUNTAMENTUM POSITUM KAL. OCTOBRIS MDCCCLXXIII around view of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, a lovely specimen quality example! PCGS graded Specimen 64. A Gothic Revival renovation and completion of the cathedral was undertaken by the architect Josef Kramer under the auspices of the "Union for the Completion of the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague". Between 1861 and 1866, repairs and removal of Baroque fabrics led to a Gothic "restoration" of the cathedral's interior. In 1870, foundations were laid for a new nave. After Kramer's death, in 1873 the architect Josef Mocker assumed direction of the reconstruction, designing the west façade in the Gothic manner, which was later realized by the final architect of the restoration, Kamil Hilbert.
