<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Miss Anne Thomson writes in much detail to her friend Martha Hall in Illinois, whom she has never seen, providing news of her large family and a wonderful physical description of Edinburg, mentioning its history of Scots and English royalty, museums, etc. She also alludes to the practice of body snatching for medical research. In very small part, “...<i>My brother William is quite a man of business; he is secretary to a life insurance company where he has a good salary...Spencer is a medical student, he is very romantic...he falls in love by the hour...I am chiefly taught by my sister</i>...” Anne continues regarding a recent crime in Edinburg. “...<i>at the burying ground there is a watch tower to watch newly made graves for fear the resurrectionists should take away the bodies for dissection. I suppose you heard of the horrible traffic that was carried on here for three years without being discovered...Two men, Burke and Hare invited people into their house where they murdered them and got ten pounds for each body from the anatomists. They had in that way destroyed many. Hare escaped, Burke was hanged before multitudes who uttered a cry of savage joy and revenge when he was dropped from the scaffold.</i>..” Cross writing on most of the letter almost doubles its length. 11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
