Paris, Nicolas Couteau (for "E.G."?), 30 Dec. 1538, folio, mod. blindstamped calf, spine on 5 raised bands with gilt title, blue edges, [6]-ccxx ff. (somewhat short at top shaving headlines). Very good copy. Cfr. ill. € 4200/5000 Extremely rare issue of the French translation by Laurent de Premierfait, of Boccaccio's "De casibus virorum illustrium". The author is describing a number of "cas et ruynes des nobles hommes et femmes renversez par fortune depuis la création du monde jusques à nostre temps", starting with Adam and Eve being the first "nobles malheureux". A number of woodcut ill. in text. Title printed in red and black within elaborate woodcut border with arms of Cologne and initials "E.G.". Text printed in 2 columns. Ref. Brun p. 137.
