BOAISTEAU, Pierre - Histoires prodigieuses extraictes de plusieurs fameux autheurs, Grecs & Latins, sacrez & prophanes (...). Paris, Jacques Macé, 1567, 12mo, old vellum over boards, endpapers renewed, [12]-190-[6] ff. (some lvs. browning, title soiled and with small blank pieces of corners torn off, a few printed marginalia shaved, some paper flaws, tear in R3, dampstain in last quires). Good copy. Cfr. ill. € 1800/2200 Apparently unrecorded edition (different collation from the ed. described by Mortimer and Index Aureliensis). Pierre Boaistuau's book on wonders and monsters, 1st published 1560, was a great succes in the late 16th c. Preliminaries contain French and Latin poetry by i.a. Joseph Scaliger and Jacques Grévin. With Macé's pyramid device on titlepage and 62 woodcut illustrations of monsters in text. Ownership entry on titlepage. Ref. Cp. Index Aureliensis 120.060 (2) and Mortimer, Harvard French 104.
