BLACK WATCH INDIAN MUTINY ELEPHANT TUSK SCRIMSHAW A rare Scottish Regimental elephant tusk ivory "scrimshaw" carving, most likely of the 42nd Regiment of foot, The Black Watch. The pictures, carved in scrimshaw fashion show "The Frontier", a fort with Union Jack flying, a portrait of "Miss Jean", The British coat of arms with Scottish order and Scottish Regimental Latin motto "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" (often translated as No one attacks me with impunity). or "Cha togar m' fhearg gun dìoladh" in Scottish Gaelic. A picture of a Highland soldier and an Indian scene. The words "Lucknow" and "Dehli" (misspelt Delhi) appear also. The 42nd of foot, The Black Watch were present at both the sieges of Delhi and Lucknow in 1857. Size: 22" Condition: VGC EST. $3000-6000
