Exercicio quotidianao, con diferentes oraciones y devociones para antes y despues de la confesion, y sagrada comunion ... With an engraved frontis. and 22 engraved devotional plates, (of which 8 may be original, and the rest extra illustrations), polychrome vellum binding, with coloured borders, ornamented with shells and gilt and coloured, ornaments at corners, oval painted coat of arms inserted into both covers within a gilt and maroon inlaid leather border, spine decorated with inlaid leather panels, blue silk endpapers, a.e.g., spine a little chipped, with some wear at head and tail, contained in a red morocco slip case, lined with blue silk and lettered "Dona Maria Lorenza del Castillo" within a diamond shaped border on the upper cover, 8vo., Madrid: por Benito Cano, 1787
Note: We have not been able to trace the coat of arms on this elaborately bound book of devotions. There are Castillos who have a lion in some form, but they do not bear it as in the arms on this work.
There are a number of non-Spanish families employing a silver lion, with gold crown, tongue and claws on a black background, but none with a two tailed lion as in the present case. Such families
are chiefly French or from the Low Countries. Nor does the coronet which surmounts the arms appear to be Spanish. It most closely resembles that used by a Marquess in Belgium and the Netherlands, so perhaps the owner whose name is on the slip case, recieved the work as a gift from a Spanish speaking member of a
Low Countries family for whom it had been originally bound.
