[BERCHTESGADEN] Collection of 18 b/w, 3½"x2½" snapshots taken by Donald E. Terrill, Gen. Patton’s driver during their tour of Berchtesgaden, called the “Eagles Nest,” Hitler’s mountain retreat in Obersalzberg. Each is annotated on verso in Terrill’s hand. Included are views from Hitler’s house that Terrill refers to as Hitler’s “hideout”; entrances to Berchtesgaden; views of devastated SS barracks, Göring’s home, the hot house, etc. Also included is a contemporary print map of “Obersalzberg / Hitler’s Mountain Retreat,” 11¾"x8¼", indicating the various roads and structures. Normal folds with some partial separations with no paper loss. Included is a letter of provenance from the Terrill’s nephew and a newspaper article naming Terrill as one of two of Patton’s drivers to arrive back in the US from Europe. Overall a very nice collection.
