BEN-GURION, DAVID
(1886 - 1973) Israeli politician, proclaimed the independence of Israel in 1948, headed the provisional government, and was later Prime Minister. Very fine content T.L.S. as defense minister, 1p. 8vo., HaQirya, July 4, 1955 in Hebrew to Neta Harpaz concerning the on-going conflict with Israel's Arab neighbors. The letter reads in full: "Shalom Rav, I regret that the Tyrants in some of the Arab Countries still do not recognize our very existence. They suspect us and consider us to be a rather strange factor, outsider that there is no place for him in the Middle-East. In addition, they are not willing to accept the military defeat of their forces. They are many and we are just a few, thus they think that our victory was some kind of a mistake - to be corrected in a future war. We shall not encourage feelings of hate towards them, on the other hand - we should not close our eyes and disregard the growing plotting against our settlements and our settlers. Therefore we must do whatever we can - in order to strengthen our I.D.F. rapidly. Yours sincerely, D. Ben-Gurion." Usual folds, two file holes at right margin, otherwise very good.
