BELGIAN ALBINI-BRAENDLIN 1867 BREECHLOADING RIFLE.
Cal. 11x52mm. S# 3234. Contemporary w/ the Springfield Allin & British Snider conversions. Designed by Italian Naval Officer, Augusto Albini & perfected by English gunsmith, Francis Braendlin. It was used by the Belgian Army until 1870, when it was replaced by the Comblain rifle. Bbl. 31 5/8" rnd. w/ oct. shank having right side bayonet lug. Bbl. shank marked "1869" on left flat w/ "5775" on top flat. Left side of bbl. & receiver having matching S# "3234". Barleycorn front sight w/ 1400m tangent rear sight. Much like the Trapdoor rifles, the breech block lifts forward & is secured by rearward rotating lever. Back action lock. Band fastened walnut stock w/ iron fittings & slotted tip ramrod. Left side of stock has roundel dated 1869. CONDITION: bbl. & bands retain over 90% arsenal reblued finish. White finished action & fittings are acquiring a mild tarnish. Refinished stock shows scattered dents & marks. Bore is generally bright retaining strong rifling. (01-19338/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,600.
