BEAUREGARD, PIERRE G. T.
(1818 - 1893) Confederate major general who initiated the attack on Fort Sumter that started the Civil War. He also led with distinction at First Bull Run, Shiloh, and in the defense of Richmond. Fine content A.L.S. "G. T. Beauregard", 3pp. 8vo., New Orleans, Apr. 6, 1873 to fellow ex-Confederate Gen. Cadmus Marcellus Wilcox. In part: "…Genl. T. P. Mott…advises me to write in French to the Khedive - who he thinks desires my services…I hope to get Gen'l Prince Polignac to become my Chief of Staff. I would be most happy to have you come with us…if acceptable to the Khedive…" Beauregard also complains that Union Gen. Charles P. Stone had denied his 1870 request to go abroad to serve the Khedive, stating: "….After the battle of Leesburg, I saved him [Stone] his commission by returning the orders he had given to Col. [Edward] Baker which were found on his body…" Folds, some toning, overall very good.
