Boone, 1841FIRST EDITION, with 2 folding maps, a folding plate, a folding table and 4 text illustrs, pages (16), 239, (11), 8vo, contemporary dark blue morocco, broad gilt bordered sides, fully gilt and lettered spine, edges gilt, silk marker, with "ALINE" in gilt on upper board : the binding rubbed and worn at corners but strong and still attractive : a very good copy.A scarce work by this Sligo-born author. Without inscription or bookplate, but the name of Beamish's wife on the upper board confirms the volume's provenance.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) HOWLEY ( Michael F. ). BEST EDITION, pages xliv, 410, bound without the half-title, 8vo, recent quarter calf, gilt, with label, gilt : with the occasional finger mark but still a very good, finely bound copy.Though he was already well respected in academic circles it was the publication of this book that secured his public reputation.
