BEALL, LLOYD J.
(d. 1887) Confederate military officer, the commandant of the Confederate marine Corps which was considered one of the best fighting units in the Civil War. An extremely rare L.S. ""Lloyd J. Beall"" adding rank, 4pp. 4to., [n. p., late 1841-early 1842 based on the ranks of the signatories], a petition prescribing the uniform for the dragoons explaining the pertinent details outlining the dress and undress uniform including the soldier's hat, coat, trousers, and, under the heading: ""Arms and Accoutrements"", noting that the troopers should carry a Harper's Ferry yager and a butcher knife. Co-signed by: DANIEL E. TWIGGS (1790-1862); HENRY H. SIBLEY (1811-1891); C.S.A. Brig. Gen. WILLIAM STEELE (1819-1885); C.S.A. Col. REUBEN P. CAMPBELL (?-1862), killed in action at Gaines Mill; Union Brig. Gen. LAWRENCE P. GRAHAM (1815-1905); 2nd Lt. GEORGE T. MASON (?-1846), killed in a skirmish at La Rosia near Ft. Brown, Tx. April 25. A great early dragoon document signed by many future Mexican War and Civil War personalities, in near fine condition.
