Mortimer ("Virtutem avorum aemulus"). FIRST EDITION THUS, the title-pages (the first in red and blank) with engraved vignette, pp (36), 122, 125-510 ; (2), (513)-761, leaf Qiii duplicated and leaf Qii (pp 123-4) wanting, 2 parts in 1 vol, continuous signatures and pagination, folio, contemporary calf, fully gilt spine : four small oval stamps on first title and the first and last few leaves with minor staining, binding heavily worn but cords strong, internally clean and very good copy.One of the most important ascetic writers of his time, beatified by Pope Leo XIII. His works are clear and lucid models of prose writing.
