From 1242 to 1257, Bamberg was ruled by Prince-Bishop Heinrich I von Bilversheim, who strengthened church power amid the growing instability of the Holy Roman Empire. As the empire entered the Great Interregnum, Bamberg worked to preserve its autonomy and influence while managing tensions between ecclesiastical and civic powers.
