<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Before the “official” beginning of the Civil War at Fort Sumter, the real start of the war occurred in April 1861 between MA Union soldiers passing through the city of Baltimore and southern sympathizer citizens. There were numerous killed and injured on both sides. As a result of this “first blood” encounter, many local Maryland Militia groups on both sides mobilized including the Baltimore County Horse Guard (B.C.H.G.). Offered is an extremely rare, and possibly the only one in existence, unidentified CDV image, a full-length seated portrait of two men in uniform including feathered hats. On verso in bold pencil, “<i>Baltimore 1861</i>.” Minor edge wear; right edge unevenly trimmed; o/w in excellent condition.
