Signed book: The Fountainhead. Later printing. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., 1964. Hardcover with slipcase, 5.5 x 8.5, 754 pages. Signed and inscribed in blue ink on the original front preliminary leaf just before the title page, “To Jim—hoping that this will give you ‘the courage to face a lifetime.’ 2/12/66. Ayn Rand.” In fine condition, with the original volume rebound in burgundy-colored leather with raised bands on the spine, marbled endpapers, new end-leaves, and gilt edges. The Fountainhead was Rand's first major literary success, bringing her literary fame and financial security, and this copy, bearing a direct quote from the book, is a remarkable example.
